Rose Colors

November 20, 2007
It is indeed true that each rose color has its own unique meaning. This presents a great opportunity to send a
message along with your thoughtful gift. Here are the color meanings:
Red Rose – Conventional Love
This is the rose that has been around the longest in convention.
Give a red rose if you want to show love or romantic desire, but beware! This rose color is a safe choice, but it has far
less effect than the other colors that you now have to choose from. Your special someone may appear delighted at your
gift, but don’t let this fool you into thinking that giving a blue rose for instance wouldn’t have been an a hundred times
more effective color. Red is traditionally the imaginative spirit of love. It represents pure, undying love stronger than
thorns. The color of animal desire is transformed in purest calmest plant life. Different shades of red roses signify
different things. Amaranth red represents  far-reaching desire that has a long history. Cardinal red gives one a more
subtle but inspiring gesture of love. A fire red rose indicates a mad passionate love. A withered red rose says love is
over. A red rosebud is young love and beauty. This one is the most obvious. It means "I love you." It represents romance
and love.
Pink Rose – Elegant and Refined
The pink rose is the rose for good friends to give to each other. Pink roses express gratitude, honor and generosity. Use
the shades of pink to define your expression. Deep pink conveys gratitude and pleasure, where as light pink says respect
and compassion; peach roses communicate an unassuming nature.
Deep Pink
This simply means "thank you". If someone you know does something nice for you, a deep pink rose is a good way of
saying "thank you".
Regular Pink
A pink rose represents happiness. It’s great to give a pink rose to a partner to say, "I’m very happy with our relationship."
Light Pink
A light pink rose means "sympathy". When someone has had a loss then light pink roses is a very nice way of expressing
your condolences.
White Rose – Purity
A white rose symbolizes innocence and purity. When combined with red roses (see further down), it represents "unity".
Give white roses to innocent, reverential, and chaste people. White roses are always used in weddings. They can also be
given as a sign of secrecy. A white rosebud is used to show girlhood; a woman giving one to her lover signifies she
wants to lose her virginity. The white rose signifies being able to loyally keep a secret, even past death. A withered
white rose says "Death is better than loss of virtue". It is not a good sign to receive such a token. White roses imply a
spiritual love that transcends the flesh. They are good flowers to give to friends.
Yellow Rose – Friend or Foe?
A yellow rose symbolizes friendship and caring. It’s the perfect innocent gift to give to a friend or give to a loved one
when you simply want to say "I care". When given to a friend it also means "I’m happy with our friendship." Hundreds
of years ago yellow roses signified jealousy. In some countries such as Mexico and Germany this is still the case. In the
U.S. the yellow rose is given for deep friendship, and can be used to express condolences. It is the rose of household
joy and common love. Colors vary from light yellow to golden. Varieties consist of Gold Strike, Skyline, Judy and
Aalsmeer Gold. Yellow roses indicate joy, gladness, and friendship. They are perfect for situations of glory and
happiness: weddings, business parties, graduations, and birthdays. Just be careful giving this rose in countries outside
of the United States.
Lavender Rose – Alluring
A lavender rose is a symbol of "falling in love". When you give it to a person you are saying "I have fallen in love with
you and am enchanted by you." Lavender roses are given when you have “love at first sight”. Also give lavender roses
to those who you feel are very special and enchanting. They are for magical people that you are infatuated with. Give
them with caution as the purple rose is a very powerfully colored rose.
Orange Rose – Craving
An orange rose is a symbol of desire. "I desire you" or "I desire to get to know you better" is the message that orange
roses send. Orange rose colors vary from bright orange to coral. Orange roses are perfect for people who you desire and
those you don’t yet know but want to get to know better. Also give them to people you are congratulating for their
accomplishments.
Black Rose – Death, Confronting Fear
Never ever give a woman a black rose, because Hollywood has, unfortunately, made out the meaning to be "death".
These aren’t easy to find and some maintain that they don’t actually "exist". With death comes new life. This is a rose
color that is guaranteed to leave a deep impression. It is for the courageous and bold to give, but beware, as many may
see it as a curse. Black roses may express the death of hardened thought habits and mean a new rebirth. Give this rose to
end a stagnating relationship, to say you have turned over a new leaf or to impress a gothic inclined special someone.
Blue Rose – Fantasy and Impossibility.
A blue rose is very hard to reproduce or find, although some floral companies are trying to do it naturally. Others just
die them. To some a blue rose symbolizes "mystery" and to others "attaining the impossible". A blue rose given can
symbolize the rarity of your partner. You have attained the impossible. Give the blue rose (if you can find one) when
you feel there is no hope but love itself. This rose represents a true enigma as scientists are still struggling to create a
natural one. The rose continues to rebel against their genetic engineering attempts. So give the blue rose when you need
a miracle and new possibilities. The blue rose is the rose to give to sick and dying people. It is also a good rose to give
in a long distance relationship or a relationship with many polarities. Give the blue rose to the spiritually inclined.
Green Rose – Fertility and Wealth
Give the green rose to newly pregnant women (and men). This is also a great flower for business. It is a message that
says, “good luck in all your endeavors”. Green is the color of life and the green rose is very rare to procure. Green roses
signify good luck. Give them mostly in a business setting.
Mixture of White and Red Roses
When you deliver white and red roses together to someone, it is a symbol of unification and unity. "May we always be
together as one."
If you want to be creative, you can combine some of the above roses to send several messages at once. For example,
send lavender and orange roses to say that you are falling in love with the person and desire to know them even more.
Provide yellow and pink roses combined to let a grieving friend know you care and are sorry for their hardship and loss.
Another tip – and this one is from DateGifts.com – buy 11 roses of one color and then 1 of a contrasting color. Provide
them to your girlfriend and let her know that she is unique and that’s one of the many reasons you love her. She stands
out amongst all women and you are honored to have her in your life.
Here’s an example: Get her 11 deep pink colored roses and one red rose. Deep pink means "thank you". You can then
say, "thank you for being unique. I love you." Or give her 11 pink roses and one blue rose to say, "I am very happy with
our relationship and thankful that I have attained such a rare gem as you."
The best part about this is that women know how much thought is put into a gift and the way you present your roses
will have an amazing impact.
